If you could care less about iTunes and Windows x64

As I sat awake at a late hour and grasped at reasons that I shouldn’t be sleepy I realized that there are probably a few readers (and only a few) that would rather just hear about me and what I’m doing. Out of consideration for them I have decided to abstain from posting personal content on socks with crocs. I realized that this would be a prime opportunity to try out Habari, a new blogging software that I found last week, and a good reason to put SQLite to work. Anything about my life (in real life) will begin flowing to the new site: withlove.psoplayer.com

I have no idea what this means for socks with crocs. I suppose this means it is free to become dominated with technical advice and tutorials, but I’m a lazy blogger, so maybe it just means it will be updated half as often.

Welcome to version 2

I’ve spent the last day getting this release ready. Improvements include:

  • Upgraded to Wordpress 2.6 (from WP 2.2)
  • New theme (powered by a newer version of K2)
  • Many fruitless hours spent trying to get OpenID working (never did get it working)
  • A wide variety of posts may or not be broken

Let me know what you think or if you find something that needs fixing.

Naked Day 2008

Here I am celebrating another internet holiday: Naked Day. On April 9th, each year participating web sites (now including mine) remove all CSS style sheets for 24 hours. It’s a gesture to remind people to have web sites that are designed so anyone can view the content on the page, even if their browser isn’t as fancy as Firefox or Internet Explorer, like on a cell phone or a very old computer.

All I had to do to my site was to install the Wordpress plugin to automatically disable the CSS on April 9th. If you are interested, here is the homepage for this venture, which includes links to plugins for all sorts of various blogs and CMS systems: http://naked.dustindiaz.com/

What’s new on the site?

Well here’s a quick list:

  • AJAXy history scrolling. Just click the link to scroll older posts and you’ll see.
  • Search as you type: search the archives for a word or phrase to the right. It’s nifty!
  • AJAX comments. Leaving a comment just automatically adds in without reloading the page (more nifty!).
  • Minor theme changes. I can finally tweak things to my liking outside of wordpress.com
  • Rewritten guides. I rebuilt my HTML guide from the ground up and have plans on resuming work on my GIMP guide eventually.
  • Space for extensive customization. Who knows what I could do here. The possibilities are even more endless than they are with wordpress.com

New title: socks with crocs

That’s right, you’re looking at a new theme and custom header by yours truly. I do like to wear socks with crocs occasionally. It only makes a very comfortable shoe even more comfortable.

There are those who say that no matter how comfortable they are, crocs still make you look like a dumbass. I just want to turn that statement around. Even if they make me look like even more of a dumbass, they’re that much more comfortable. If you’re too self-conscious to try it yourself, then that’s your own problem and I won’t try to argue it any farther.

You can only wear them with socks every once in a while and for not too long or the socks will get all nasty and ruin the magic. It’s one of those ‘too much of a good thing’ situations.

What else do you do every day to end up looking stupid for the sake of comfort?
